The Iberian Peninsula is separated at the southern tip of North Africa by just a narrow strait at the intersection of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. This important geographical position played an important role in the history of this peninsula. Geography and topography are reflected in the climate. The mountainous regions in the north are considerably colder than in the south, with winter snow in the Serra da Estrêla and the Pyrenees near the northern border. The weather along the northern coasts and in the center of the peninsula is milder; Lisbon has an average high temperature of 14 °C in January and 27 °C in August, while July is the hottest month in Madrid with an average temperature of 24.5 °C (76 °F). The Algarve and Andalusia are warmer with the most sunshine hours per year in Europe (the weather in the south and partly also the east of the peninsula offers more than 300 sunny days a year.) The ocean moderates coastal temperatures, but the interior of the Alentejo and Andalusia can be quite warm, with temperatures sometimes exceeding 40C during the summer months.
Separated from France by the towering Pyrenees, the history and culture of this region often evolved with an iconic non-European character. It eventually turned into a celebrated region whose cultural heritage has taken a different path from the rest of Europe. |
The Film industry in the Iberian Peninsula
Thanks to their temperate climate and easy accessibility to the sea places, Lisbon and the Algarve in Portugal, and Barcelona and Andalucia in Spain are Europe's most favourite locations to shoot film, tv and commercial productions. The combination of extensive and diverse location backgrounds, great climate, multiple airport hubs and depth of tourism infrastructure are factors that make this peninsula a prime choice for visiting producers. These 2 countries are no longer distant lands for international film and TV shooting as the industry grows dramatically amid a tidal wave of government funding. Portugal and Spain have been at the forefront of international shoots in recent years. Production Algarve joined forces with several Spanish production companies, bundled their services, knowledge and experience in film, photographic, TV and commercial productions in Spain and Portugal. Our main local partner is producer Robert Seaquist, "Seaquist, a company", based in Malaga. Our website is a portal for this special collaboration between borderless production companies on the Iberian Peninsula. |
